CES 1 at WWT Llanelli Wetland

Constant Effort Site season commenced today when we crossed the Afon Llwchwr into Carmarthenshire for our first visit of 2015. I joined Heather Coats, Phil Mead, Dan Rouse and Andrew Hughes for a 05:30 rendezvous and the seven nets were in position by 06:00.
A programme of tree-surgery over the autumn/winter period had opened up areas along the three rides which proved beneficial as the resulting total for the first CES visit of the season was the best for the past few years in addition the Mistle Thrush was the first ever trapped at the site.

Mistle Thrush

Cetti's Warbler

Midway through the session we were joined by Wendy Hall while Nia and Laurie (the current placement students from Cardiff and Plymouth Universities) took a keen interest in our efforts while photographing damsel flies and butterflies. We hope they will join us again at some future sessions this season.
Thanks to all and sundry for the help in clearing away at the end of the session.
